The theme of the 2019–2020 school year was Better Together. Nothing could capture the heart and mission of the Parent Organization better than that. Better Together, parent volunteers, committee chairs and quiet contributors worked tirelessly for our community. From spending time in the classroom, to welcoming prospective families, serving on various PO committees, hosting Faculty/ Staff Appreciation Lunches, packing PATH lunches, staffing the student store, serving as Team Parents, working the used book sale, hosting incredible Party Book Parties and serving as Room Parents—the Parent Org is all about Community. We support each other, our kids and our school.

Better Together, parent volunteers, committee chairs and quiet contributors worked tirelessly for our community.

Bookwood, our beloved K-6 event, hosted families for a day of crafts, bedazzling, maker’s space activities, food, book author visits and a book fair. The money raised went directly to the Elementary Campus. Spirit Night brought grades K-12 together to cheer on our basketball team and to celebrate school spirit. Our Party Book hosted incredible experiences from A-Z.

With an unprecedented spring, Parent Org, with the monies raised by our incredible Party Book team, was able to help give back to our community through our donation to The Better Together Fund. All of the money from the fund has gone back to families. This is what community is all about! The balance of Party Book fundraising will go to the Capital Campaign for the School Servery.

In addition to giving back to our community financially, our PODEI (Parent Organization Diversity Equity and Inclusion) committee created and continues to create important opportunities for us all to learn and grow together, from Robin DiAngelo’s talk on White Fragility in January to Nefertiti Austin’s discussion about “Navigating Race within an Independent School” in August. How lucky we are to have the school and our parents working together.

As we move into a new school year, we face unique and difficult challenges. As parents within this community, we will Embrace the Moment and continue to grow Better Together.

Thank you to everyone for your generous contributions.

Sincerely,

Ginger Sherak
